Consistency is the least glamorous marketing advice there is. It’s also the one that works.

The algorithm gets a lot of the blame (and credit), but the real reason is simpler: people. When someone sees your name every week, you become the obvious choice on the day they’re finally ready to buy.

Perfect is slow

Most business owners have a folder of “almost ready” posts. A photo that needs a better edit, a caption that’s nearly right. A good post that goes out on Tuesday beats a perfect one that never leaves your phone.

What consistent actually looks like

A posting rhythm you can keep for months, not a burst for two weeks.

One look, so people recognise your posts before they read your name.

A mix that shows the product, explains it, proves it with reviews and invites people to buy.

Where to start

If you’re posting nothing right now, start with two posts a week for a month. Plan them on Monday, schedule them and forget about them. After a month, look at what people responded to and do more of that.

The goal isn’t to go viral. It’s to be remembered.

And if you’d rather not think about it at all, that’s exactly what Golden Ideas Marketing does for clients every week.

Ads are a tap. They pour people onto your page. Before you open it, make sure the page is ready for them.

Know what you want people to do. Buy, book, call or send a WhatsApp. Pick one and make it obvious.

Set up tracking. If you can’t see what the spend brings in, you’re guessing. Tracking should be the first thing set up, before a single ad runs.

Check your landing page on a phone. Most of your clicks will come from one. Is the button easy to tap? Does the page load quickly?

Make sure your social profiles look alive. People check your Instagram before they trust an ad. An empty feed costs you sales.

Set a test budget and a time frame. Run it, learn from it, then adjust. The first month is for learning, not for judging.

A quick word on budgets

Ad spend is paid directly to Google and Meta, separate from what you pay someone to manage the ads. Start small, prove it works, then grow the budget behind what’s working.

Ads don’t fix a leaky page. They just make the leak more expensive.

Most business cards try to say everything. The good ones do one thing well.

When Vernon Barnard’s card was designed, the job was clear: get fans to his music. So the card has one hero, a QR code. One scan takes you to an interactive Linktree with his music, YouTube, Spotify, socials and booking information.

One scan. Everything Vernon.

Ask these before you print

Who is going to get this card, and where?

What should they do next: call, book, follow or buy?

What will still be true in a year? Don’t print things that change.

Print is part of your brand

For Golf Carts & All, the cards, golf shirts, vehicle stickers and email signatures all look like they belong together. That’s what makes a small business look established: the same brand, everywhere people meet it.

Keeping a feed posting every week sounds like a daily job. The honest answer: don’t plan daily. Plan monthly, in one sitting.

Start with the calendar. Launches, specials, school holidays and public holidays. Golf Carts & All’s Heritage Day post was planned weeks before the day.

Pick three or four content pillars. A reliable set: show it, explain it, prove it, invite people in.

Fill the grid. Drop the pillars into the month so no week is all sales and no week is all fluff.

Batch the design. Design every post for the month in one go, using the same templates and colours.

Write the captions in one go. You’ll write faster and sound more like yourself.

Schedule, and leave gaps. Keep a little room for real-time moments and fresh photos.

The best shortcut

Keep a running note of every question a customer asks you. Every one of them is a post. Magnesium Café’s feed is built on exactly that: plain-language answers to the questions people already have.

Vernon Barnard’s single One More Time reached 20.8K views in 30 days without spending a cent on ads. Here’s how the rollout worked.

Phase it, don’t post it

Tease. “Coming soon” graphics and a pre-save link.

Count down. Countdown posts keep the date in people’s heads (“33 days to go”).

Release. One clear “Out now” post with every platform on it.

Keep going. Reels, radio and podcast announcements kept the song in front of people long after release day.

Borrow other people’s audiences

Radio and podcast appearances put Vernon in front of listeners who’d never seen his account. Announcing them gave his own followers something new to share.

Make every post easy to act on

Pre-save, listen, follow. Each post asked for one thing.

A launch is a month, not a day.

A golf cart on a fairway is expected. A golf cart on a wine farm starts a conversation.

When work started on Golf Carts & All, the obvious content was carts on golf courses. But their customers use them on estates, farms, vineyards and along the coast. So that’s where the content went.

Why it works

People picture themselves in the post, which is half the sale.

It reaches buyers who didn’t know they needed the product.

It helps match the right product to the right person.

Try it with your business

Where do your customers actually use what you sell? In their kitchen, at their desk, on their wedding day? Show it there. A nail set on a hand holding a coffee says more than one on a white background.
